I want to study Nursing in the US but am unsure where to live?

I am looking at applying to US nursing schools but want to know where a really good place to live would be. I want warm weather, nice beaches and lively, kind of like Brighton in the UK but better.

  1. I Live in North Carolina and there are a lot of really good nursing schools here. It is warm here we have cooler weather but not too cold. Good luck!

  2. I’d have you target schools in California, as your primary destination. There are also schools in North Carolina that would work well for you.

Florida might work, if you don’t mind the humidity and extreme heat. But that can be a powerful combination. Me, I’d have you look at California.

California – especially southern California – has warm, temperate weather, and many communities along the ocean that are very lively. I’d suggest you get your hands on some tourist guide books – the Lonely Planet series is a good place to start – and read up on California and other regions. See if you can identify some communities that fit your personal style. Then go online and find nursing schools, and universities that have nursing programs, that are near those communities.

Another place I’d have you look at is Vancouver, BC, Canada. I know that’s not in the US, but it matches everything else you listed: lively, ocean, temperate climate (although it gets coldish in winter.) And as a British citizen, I believe that it’s easier to immigrate into Canada than into the US.

But you having a US nursing degree will put you in *very* good stead in terms of getting a US work visa. I do not think that will be much of an issue, when you graduate. Nursing is a shortage occupation in the US.

  3. I would suggest you to go to Miami. We have a nice community college here. It is open for international students. And once you will get here you can find roommates through the board of announcements for students.

    Good Luck!
