how long does it take to become a veterinary nurse?

i am just into animals big time and mostly horses always wanted to be a vet. but when it comes to exams i wouldnt to well, in the exam hall. but i am smart and really good at the practical work e.g nursing injecting, stitching up, bringing baby animals up bottle feed, massaging which i am going to do a exam in massage as well. i work well with vets as i done experenice in the past many years ago. but now i just want to sort my career out now. as i have been always avoiding univeresty and working in retail the last 10years. i am 26 years old, so i am thinking the next best hting is vetanary nurse and massage. how hard is it and how long does it take, i live in northern ireland so it would be uk course i would be doing but advise from all over will be great thanks.

  1. A vet tech. or a vet nurse gets a degree in two years if you go full time and probably anywhere from 3-4 years going part time.

This of course is MUCH better than a vets schooling of 8 years!!

Follow your dreams and good luck!

  2. I think what youre referring to is a vet tech and youd like to specialize in large animals. As far as how long it takes, here in Cananda, you can take a vet tech course and graduate in 2 – 3 years. :) Its much less dense of a study than actually becoming a doctor in veterinary medicine, but you would be a Veterinary assistant so to speak. Helping with many things. Plenty of the time, depending on the vet youre working with, you’ll be taught much more, all the knowledge of a vet just simply no "credentials" to prescribe or dose any of them unless of course supervised by a liscensed Vet. Its just as good and its an awesome way to become VERY knowledgable…especially with your own horses :)

    Good Luck! : 0)

Check out your local institutions and see what your pre-requisites are and so on. Iam guessing, based on here in Cananda, that its only 3 years MAX. Most of that is practicum too..like, on the job training.
